When a leading building manufacturer was looking for reinforcement of a new radiant barrier product, Conwed delivered the right netting solution for their application.  


We developed a distinctive netting configuration with customized adhesive features that allowed thermal lamination to the radiant barrier film. Our co-extruded netting technology provided superior tensile strength to other alternatives, eliminated adhesive application steps and provided a strong but flexible composite for easy installation.

Radiant barriers are materials that are installed in buildings to reduce summer heat gain and winter heat loss. The main goal for using radiant barrier products is to help reduce building heating and cooling energy usage. The potential benefit of attic radiant barriers is primarily reducing air-conditioning cooling loads in warm or hot climates.  

In general, radiant barriers consist of a thin sheet or coating of a highly reflective material, usually aluminum, applied to one or both sides of a number of substrate materials. These substrates include Kraft paper, plastic films, cardboard, plywood sheathing and air infiltration barrier materials. Conwed netting serves as an ideal reinforcement component because it can be laminated or bonded to a wide range of substrates.  

When our customer assigned this project to our team, the challenge was to create a reinforced composite but flexible enough to facilitate handling by users.
