MINNEAPOLIS (March 11, 2009) — The first and only completely degradable turf netting was recently introduced by Conwed Plastics at the Turf Producers International (TPI) tradeshow in Point Clear, Alabama. A new revolution in turf netting, Ecocycle™ Technology is the first turf netting that degrades below ground after the netting is no longer needed. Netting made with Ecocycle Technology is an environmentally-friendly and affordable solution.
Conwed SodNet® and SodWrap™ netting with Ecocycle Technology is programmed to provide the end user with the same useful life, as standard SodNet and SodWrap, with no loss in properties. Yet after the intended useful life, the netting breaks down faster providing an increased value to the turf grower and their customer. Ecocycle Technology modifies standard plastic enabling the netting to lose strength at a programmed rate. During the useful life, the netting is stabilized to prevent the premature onset of strength reduction in the netting. As the netting ages beyond its design life, with ambient heat and oxygen, the netting becomes brittle, breaking into small fragments. The fragments from the initial degradation, under standard conditions of use, can be further broken down until they are digestible by microbes in a second stage of degradation.
Thanks to Ecocycle Technology, turf netting is completely degradable above ground or below. Ecocycle Technology reduces the chance of mechanical entanglement and minimizes trip hazards in high traffic areas where the turf is heavily worn. Also after the initial turf installation, the netting will not interfere with future landscape alterations. Turf netting with Ecocycle Technology addresses the market’s request for an affordable degradable netting.
