Conwed Plastics, LLC Achieves Carbon Neutral Status
MINNEAPOLIS (March 22, 2010) – Conwed Plastics, LLC, the global leader in providing innovative and comprehensive plastic netting solutions, today announced that it has achieved carbon neutral status for the global enterprise and its products through its annual reduction in carbon emissions and its membership with the Chicago Climate Exchange (CCX). Reducing carbon emissions is part of a larger sustainability program for Conwed that includes such programs as energy and water conservation and an aggressive goal to reduce carbon emissions by 1% annually.

The Chicago Climate Exchange is the world's first and North America's only legally binding, rules-based greenhouse gas emissions allowance trading system for all six greenhouse gases. Conwed is the first US plastic company to join CCX and will honor its commitment to purchase Carbon Financial Instrument (CFI) contracts equal to the firm's indirect greenhouse gas emissions not reduced through other programs. By doing so, Conwed will offset all of the emissions from its operations and becomes the first plastic company in North America to be carbon neutral.

"We are excited to have Conwed as the first US-based plastic company to join CCX. Their vision and commitment is an important addition to the CCX program," said CCX Chairman and Founder Richard L. Sandor.

"Conwed has always tried to be a socially responsible company, and this is another logical step in that direction," said Conwed's CEO & President Mark Lewry. "Conwed has reduced greenhouse gas emissions by over 13% since 2004. Joining CCX represents our continued deep commitment to advancing environmentally sound business practices. We're delighted to be the first plastic company to achieve carbon neutral status."

For years Conwed has focused on creating a sustainable enterprise including polymer innovation, light weighting materials and use of recycle content. Since 2004 Conwed has introduced plant based polymers, compostable netting and a life-cycle technology in which the plastic is engineered to break down quickly after its useful product life is finished. Additionally, Conwed has made significant progress in reducing water and electrical consumption as well as reducing landfill waste.
